Putkaste ( German Putkas ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Martna ( Martna vald ) in Lääne in Estonia.

Population and location

The village has 39 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). It is located 19 km east of the district capital of Haapsalu. Its area is 5.5 square kilometers.

Best of Putkaste

At the beginning of the 16th century, the place was a prebend of the canons of Haapsalu. The farm was built during the Swedish reign over the area. From 1628 to 1691 he belonged to the county of Haapsalu.

Since the end of the 18th century, he was intermittently owned by the aristocratic Baltic German family Maydell. Last private owner before the expropriation in the course of the Estonian land reform in 1919 was Herbert Baron Maydell.
