Putnam County (New York)

Putnam County is a county located in the state of New York in the United States. In the 2000 census, the county had 95 745 inhabitants and a population density of 160 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Carmel.

History

The County was formed in 1812 and to Israel Putnam, a hero of the French and Indian War and the American Revolutionary War General named.

Geography

The county has an area of ​​638 square kilometers, of which 39 square kilometers are water surface.
