Puttgarden is a place in the north of the island of Fehmarn and Fehmarn since the founding of the city one of its neighborhoods. Puttgarden is best known as the location of Fährbahnhofs Puttgarden during the Vogelfluglinie. In December 2007 the station for ICE hold has been upgraded.

History

With the Peter and Paul chapel, which was first documented in 1198, the district Puttgarden had the first church on the island of Fehmarn. To the chapel to remember the names Kapellenkuhl and country meadow where horses grazed the worshipers. The name probably means Puttgarden Under the castle; derived from the old Slavic pod for under and gard for castle.

Structures

The plan is a fixed link, the Puttgarden to connect through Fehrmarnbelt with the Danish Rodby, Lolland. Instead of the planned 19 km long bridge that was to be built from 2011 through 2018, since mid- January 2011, a 17.6 km long immersed in planning, construction of which is scheduled to begin in 2015.
