Río Putumayo

The Río Putumayo ( Inga Kichwa - Valsayacu or Walsayaku ), in the lower barrel portion ( in Brazil) Rio Içá, is a river in South America. It flows into Brazil near San Antônio do Içá in the Amazon.

The 1813 km long river has a water flow of 8760 m / s The Putumayo is navigable in almost its entire length, making it a more important waterway as the north parallel Río Japurá. He's transport especially in the livestock sector (4% of the catchment area are grasslands ) and the rubber industry.

The Putumayo arises as Río Guamues near Pasto, Colombia, La Concha Lake. The Guamues flows after exiting from the Andes to the southeast weakly in relief tropical rainforest (87% of the catchment area ). From Puerto Asís, Putumayo as it forms the southwestern border of Colombia to Ecuador and Perú.

After the river the Colombian department of Putumayo is named.
