Putyla Raion

Rajon Putyla (Ukrainian Путильський район / rayon Putylskyj; Russian Путильский район / Putilski raion, Romanian Raionul Putila ) is a raion ( administrative district) in the Chernivtsi Oblast, in western Ukraine.

The center of the Rajons is the urban-type settlement Putyla, in the east it borders on the Rajon Wyschnyzja, in the south of Romania, on the west by Rajon Verhovyna and in the north for a short distance to the Rajon Kosiv ( in the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast located ).

The Rajon originated in 1940 after the occupation of Northern Bukovina to the Soviet Union, but was created in its present form in 1961 under Soviet leadership as part of the Ukrainian SSR, since 1991 a part of modern Ukraine, 99 percent of the population are Ukrainians.
