The Puula Lake [pu ː lɑ ] (also Puulavesi ), in Puula - Kyyvesi Lake District, located in the southeast of Finland in the countryside of Southern Savo and extends over the three communities Mikkeli, Hirvensalmi and Kangasniemi. The region was first settled around 5000 BCE by people. Meanwhile, 24,000 people live in this region.

The rugged lakes system has a shoreline length of 2350 km. 1,434 islands lie in the field of the eleventh largest lake in Finland. The water area is about 330 km ².

Thanks sparsely populated occur very many bird species in the region. The most common polar diver -throated Diver, herring, storm, Laughing and Herring Gulls, Terns, Common Goldeneye, Common Merganser, Red-breasted Merganser, wild duck, widgeon and swans come before. Also, the abundance of fish in the region is diverse. Professional fishermen are targeting mainly small whitefish. Hobby fishermen prefer perch, pike, salmon, trout, roach and large whitefish.

The largest settlements on the banks of the lake are Kangasniemi ( 6,256 inhabitants), Hirvensalmi ( 2,579 inhabitants) and Haukivuori.
