Puyehue Lake

The Lago Puyehue is a large lake in southern Chile.

He is (los Lagos Región de ) in the region X, which is also known as Lakes Region. The lake is located between the cities of Entre Lagos and Licán.

The Lago Puyehue has an area of ​​around 156 square kilometers and a maximum depth of 135 m. The lake is an old glacial lake of glacial origin with crystal clear water. At the lake there are many beautiful beaches, such as in the area Mantilhue. He is the source of the River Pilmaiquen.

In the northeast of the lake is 4 km ² large island Fresia, which is covered by an ancient trees. To the east of the lake is the 2,236 m high active volcano Puyehue. In this area there are hot springs and geysers. This is also the 107 km ² large Puyehue National Park, partly in the area of ​​Antillanca with Ulmo and Coigüe forests and a very rich fauna.

The lake and the rivers are full of fish, you start there, for example, trout and salmon.

History

The Lago Puyehue was visited in 1553 Francisco de Villagra first time. The town of Entre Lagos was from 1938. The Puyehue (National Park) was established in 1941.

Economy

The tourism, fishing and forestry plays an important role in the area. The lake is ideal for sailing and fishing. On the banks there are campsites.

Several hydropower plants are in the area for energy. The Pan-American Highway passes near the lake.
