Pylades

Pylades (Greek Πυλάδης ) In Greek mythology, the son of the king of Phocis Strophius and Anaxibia, sister of Agamemnon ( also referred to as Kydragora or Astyoche ).

He is the faithful companion and friend of the young Orestes, who grew up together with him. Later he marries his sister Electra and has with her sons Medon and Strophius.

In the epics of Homer Pylades is not mentioned. It plays an important role especially in the tragedies of the classical period as Aeschylus ' Libation Bearers and Euripides ' Orestes and Iphigenia in Tauris the post-classical as well as their adaptations such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's Iphigenia in Tauris and the opera Iphigénie en Tauride.
