Pylaros (Greek Πύλαρος ( f sg ), older Pylarei Πυλαρέοι ( m. pl. ) ) Is a municipality in the north of the island of Kefalonia. It was created in 1994 as a merger of the previously independent municipalities Makryotika, Divarata and Agia Effimia and went with the administrative reform in 2010 in the newly created municipality of Cephalonia, where she has since formed a municipality with 1,501 inhabitants.

History

The first merger of municipalities was carried out in 1864, but this was resolved by official government decree in 1912. From then on there was the independent communities of Agia Effimia, Makryotika, Divarata, Ferentinata and Drakopoulata. In 1945 some residents of these communities, the new villages Potamianata and Antypata. The 1953 earthquake destroyed the villages and a rural exodus began. 1973 were the villages merge to three communities to again call 1994 ( before the reform area ), the Commune Pylaros to life.

Geography

Pylaros is located in the north of the island on two coasts and is very mountainous, the adjacent northern peninsula formed the community Erisos with the municipal districts Assos and Fiskardo. To the west is the famous Myrtos beach, east of the small port of Agia Evfimia. Both are located on the important road from Sami to Argostoli and Lixouri. The highest elevations are Agia Dynati ( 1131 m) in the south and Kalon Oros (900 m) in the north.

Economy and infrastructure

The main industries were formerly the production of honey and sheep farming. With the anarchist politicians Marinos Antypas from Ferentinata Pylaros became a center of the peasant movement. The unwirte country in the 19th century led to a job with the shipping. Only recently reached the place itself through tourism to a certain prosperity, the cafe on the beach of Myrtos is operated directly by the municipality.

The city hall and administration were in Agia Effimia, recently the Citizens' Advice Bureau ( CEP ) exists as a contact for all regulatory issues. Further facilities in Agia Effimia a police station, a post office, a country doctor's office, a branch of Emporiki Bank and a pharmacy. In Makryotika is the only school and the nursery of the church, and the Sissi Matios city library and the senior center KAPIs.

There is an association for the protection of the forest, a small hotel owners association, a cooperative of milk producers and a sports club.
