Pylkönmäki

Pylkönmäki is a former municipality in central Finland and now a part of the city Saarijärvi.

Pylkönmäki located 33 km west of the center of Saarijärvi in the hills of the Suomenselkä. In Soidinmäki this ridge reaches an impressive height of 235 m for Finland. The community Pylkönmäki had an area of ​​392.4 km ² (of which 25.6 km ² inland waters) and included not only the eponymous capital of the villages Kukko, Kuoppala, Mahlu, Paajala, Puolimatka and Paajarvi. The wooden church in the village was built in 1860 according to plans by K. Kuorikoski and 1927 remodeled under the direction of Alvar Aalto.

As an independent community Pylkönmäki was dissolved in 1914 from Saarijärvi. How many remote rural communities in Finland is Pylkönmäki long of flight from the land affected.
