Pyotr Lebedev

Pyotr Nikolaevich Lebedev (Russian Пётр Николаевич Лебедев; born 24 Februarjul / March 8 1866greg in Moscow, .. † 1 Märzjul / March 14 1912greg ibid. . ) Was a Russian physicist.

Lebedev studied physics with August Kundt at the University of Strasbourg, where he completed his doctorate in 1891. In 1900 he became professor at the Lomonosov University in Moscow.

Lebedev was 1900 demonstrate experimentally the radiation pressure and thus provided a confirmation of Maxwell's theory of electrodynamics. He also conducted research on the double refraction of electric waves and the geomagnetic field.

The Lebedev Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences is named after him.
