The Mastin del Pirineo is one of the FCI (No. 92, Gr. 2, sec 2.2) recognized Spanish breed.
Origin and History
Very massive big dog of the Pyrenees. This type of dog is found both on the Spanish, as well as the French side. Since both countries were unable to agree with respect to the breed standard, he called on the French side Chien de Montagne des Pyrénées ( Pyrenean Mountain Dog). Racial differences are present (eg color ) but not essential.
Description
Up to 77 cm large Molosser type dogs, his hair is more wiry, medium length, about 6-9 cm long, climate-proof dense and thick. Nature and use
The Mastin del Pirineo guarded in the past, home, farm and flock against wolves and bears. In outlying farmsteads he is today entrusted with this task. It is relatively easy to train, although he is accustomed to act independently.
