Pyromancy

As Pyromancy (from Greek art of divination from the fire ), also Pyromantik, refers to the alleged art of being able to predict from fire and its manifestations, the truth or the future. It is related to the methods employed in many Indian and shamanic divination embossed Indigenous Peoples, which consists of the observation of phenomena in and on fire.

The Greeks attributed the invention of the Pyromancy Amphiaraos. In ancient times, this art of divination was used in temples, particularly in Apollonia located in the Epirus region in there, fed by natural hydrocarbon gases "holy fire".

Even among the Romans the Pyromancy supposed to have been in use. Cicero's wife is said to have foretold by reading a sacrificial fire, to be consul the following year. Tanaquil, the wife of Tarquinius Priscus, prophesied that he would be king of the Romans.

A number of strains of the North American Abenaki and Algonquin prophesied from the fire.

Application

The pyromancy was practiced by different ways. For example, a handful of salt or the like is thrown into the fire. The seer looks about a quarter of an hour into the flames to interpret it on the basis of flame formation and shape of the fire in the future.

There are two other mantic arts, which can also be defined as pyromantisch that Kapnomantie, the interpretation on the smoke is due, the is a fire by itself, and the Tephromantie, where the ashes of a fire is interpreted that has been kindled for sacrificial purposes.
