Reception

2004 was chosen by the Rolling Stone Album at number 384 of the " 500 Greatest Albums of All Time ". The album has reached ten times platinum status in the U.S..

The magazine Rock Hard put the album in 2007, ranked 92 out of 500 of its existing rock and metal albums of Fame. As the highest-ranked album of the group at that list, it was thus only one place ahead of the predecessor High ' n' Dry. In a review of Thomas copper from the same magazine it was, hit " like Rock of Ages, Too Late for Love or Photograph" belonged " to the best that the melodic Hard Rock has produced to date, and also years after its publication none of their charisma lost. It is no different with the two best because tracks unusually dramatic structured Die Hard the Hunter and Billy 's Got a Gun, which make it clear that Def Leppard have submitted at any time of a simple structured songwriting formula. Exactly this unexpected spontaneity is it that makes the difference between a very good album and a world-class disc as Pyromania. "
