Pyuria

As pyuria ( " Eiterharnen " of gr πύον " pus ", ούρον " urine " ) a recognizable with the naked eye admixture of pus in the urine is called. Typical are milky flocculent additions in the urine and a streaky haze.

Microscopically, there are at least 10 leukocytes per mm ³ uncentrifuged urine. Cause is usually bacterial infectious diseases of the urinary organs, urinary tract infections so in the broadest sense. Occasionally, purulent inflammation of the surrounding organs may be the cause, if a fistula to the urinary tract is made. A sterile pyuria is an indication of urogenital tuberculosis.
