Qakh (city)

Qax, also Gakh (Georgian კახი / kachi ), is a city in Azerbaijan. It is the capital of the district Qax. The city is situated on the banks of the river Kurhumchai. The name means something like fortress.

In the city live about 12,100 inhabitants. A large minority are Georgians. In the city there is a cultural center and an old Georgian Orthodox Church.

There are bus connections to Baku, Russia and Georgia. There is also a train station, outside the city.
