The Qatar Football Association ( الاتحاد القطري لكرة القدم, DMG al -Ittihad al - qaṭarī li - curate al - qadam Arabic) is the Football Association in Qatar. It was founded in 1960 and is in her current position since 1970 active. She joined the AFC in 1972 and 1970, the FIFA.

History

In 1946 came to a first interest in football with the arrival of oil companies. The popularity of the sport grew rapidly, so that the first football club in the country, Al Najah, was founded in 1950. Soon it came to the establishment of the Athletic Union, the first sports federation Qatar. However, the association existed only a few months, there were problems in the heading of games again and again. Unlike today, the organization lacked expertise and experience. So games were arranged only through oral agreements or simple letters. In addition, it was convention that a trophy was donated by the team that has requested to align the game.

Izzadeen tournament

Under the supervision of Qatar Petroleum, the first football competition in 1951 ( the Izzadeenturnier ) was organized and played all time in Qatar in the town of Dukhan. Although several teams from the capital Doha participated in the tournament, including Al Najah, the team won from the host city of Dukhan.

Pukett Cup

For season 1957, the old competition was replaced by the Pukett Cup from Qatar Petroleum, the first edition in 1957 won Al Najah.

Trading

Both at the local, as well as at the regional level, the rules were not as strict as they are today. It was enough if a player who wanted to change clubs, wrote a notice and 10 Indian rupee paid. This unprofessional system was in force until 1962.

Foreign Players

Between the 1950s and the 1970s there were numerous foreign players, who came mainly from Sudan, Egypt, Somalia, Iran or Syria. They were largely responsible for ensuring that football at the local level was known and they enriched the Qatari football. With the foreign players no contracts have been signed, but they were employed by public or private companies.

Foundation

The Qatar Football Association was founded in its present function in 1970 to manage the football in Qatar and even joined in the same year of FIFA. In the year 1972/73 Qatar Football Association hosted the first Qatar Stars League.
