QFS

QFS (Quick File System; German: Fast File System) is an open source file system from Sun Microsystems. It is tightly integrated with SAM, the Storage and Archive Manager, which is often also called SAM - QFS. SAM provides the functionality of a hierarchical storage management system.

Functionality

QFS supported largely volume management capabilities, which allow many disks into a group to a single file system to offer. The file system metadata can be saved to a separate set of plates, whereby a low access time is guaranteed to the files. This is particularly useful in streaming applications. In addition, there is the option to set on the Shared Reader or shared option writer to simultaneously access the file system from multiple nodes on the file system.

History

SAM - QFS, was originally developed by LSC Inc, which was acquired by Sun in 2001. Sun released the SAM - QFS source code in OpenSolaris project in March 2008.
