Qian Qichen

Qian Qichen (Pinyin: Qian Qichen ); Chinese钱其琛( born January 5, 1928 the Shanghai district of Jiading ) is a former Chinese politician. From April 1988 to March 1998 he was Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China (PRC).

Life

At 14 he joined the Communist Party of China. After his graduation in 1955, he served as a diplomat in Moscow, among other things, and as ambassador to Guinea. From 1977, he held posts in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC. Prior to his time as Foreign Minister, he was from 1982 to 1988 Deputy Foreign Minister.

From 1993 until his retirement in 2003, he was also vice- premier of the State Council of the PRC.
