Qiandao Lake

The Qiandao Lake (Chinese千岛湖, Lake of the Thousand Islands ') is a reservoir in Chun'an county, Zhejiang province, China. The lake has a water surface of 573 km ² and takes 17.8 km ³ of water. The maximum depth is 26 m. 1078 larger islands are distributed in the lake. The shores are very irregular. (Fig.) The constant water temperature of 25 ° C.

The dam has a height of 105 m and a length of 466.5 m, the hydroelectric power station has an installed capacity of 845 MW. The cash inflows are from Xin'an Jiang, a upper reaches of the Qiantang River. History

The lake was flooded in September 1959 to operate the hydroelectric plant Xin'an. At the foot of the mountain Wu Shi is the city founded in 208 Shi Cheng ( " Lion City " ) from the time of the Eastern Han Dynasty ( 25-200 BC). Shi Cheng is now in a depth of 26 to 40 meters.

The ancient city is well preserved, including many houses are still standing, three city gates and most of the city wall.
