Quad City Mallards

The Quad City Mallards are an American Hockey franchise from Moline, Illinois, which was active from 1995 to 1997 in the Colonial Hockey League from 1997 to 2007 in the United Hockey League, as well as in the 2009/10 season in the International Hockey League. Since the 2010/11 season the Mallards play in the Central Hockey League. The Mallards play their home matches at the i wireless Center.

History

The franchise was founded in 1995 and took his game mode in the Colonial Hockey League. First head coach of the team was Brad Buetow. In their first season, the Mallards qualified for the play- offs, although they had a negative balance with 30 wins and 39 defeats. In the first round the team defeated in four games without a win against the Flint Generals own and different from the competition.

In the following season once again succeeded in gaining the final round. With 105 points in the regular season the team achieved a remarkable increase of 40 points compared to last year. In the first two rounds, the team against Muskegon Fury and Thunder Bay Thunder Cats prevailed before they met in the finals at the Colonial Cup on the Flint Generals. In six games, the team defeated the Generals and thus won the first championship trophy. In the following year, this success could be exceeded even when the Mallards represented both the best team in the regular season as the best team in the play-offs.

The franchise also qualified in two seasons 1998/99 and 1999/2000 again for the finals, but lost under head coach Paul Gillis against Muskegon Fury and this was subsequently relieved of his duties. His successor, Matt Shaw failed in the finals the following year at the Muskegon Fury. Under the longstanding former NHL player Paul A. MacLean as head coach of success returned to the Mallards. With 55 wins, 12 losses and 117 points, the team presented for the third time in history, the point best team in the regular season. In addition, the Mallards won in the finals against the Asheville Smoke her third Colonial Cup.

In the later years could no longer be tied to these successes, only in the season 2002/03 collection was achieved in the finals, where the team in five games to the Fort Wayne Komets defeated. The team had 29 wins and 35 defeats for only the second time in franchise history a negative balance on the first time and missed qualifying for the finals. Since the season 2010/11, take the Quad City Mallards part in the game operation of the Central Hockey League. In June 2011, David Bell, a former minor league player and former assistant coach with the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League, introduced as the new head coach and general manager of Mallards.

Farm team

The Quad City Mallards talked numerous collaborations with teams from various leagues. From 1995 to 1997, she went with the Fort Wayne Komets of the International Hockey League to cooperate and acted in this time as their farm team. The cooperation with the Portland Pirates from 1997 to 2001 was about their longest collaboration with another franchise. In the season 2004/ 05 they were the farm team of three AHL franchises, the Chicago Wolves, Hershey Bears and the Portland Pirates.
