Residential tower of the castle

The Square Mərdəkan castle is a castle in the village Mərdəkan on the peninsula Absheron in Azerbaijan, which was part of the chain attachment on the peninsula. It was probably built in the 14th century, and is 2.5 km from the Caspian Sea.

Castle

The courtyard of the castle is 28x25 meters in size, the surrounding six meter high walls form almost a square. At the corners Rundbasteinen were built. In the courtyard they found several wells. In the middle of the courtyard there is a 22 meter high residential tower with five bullets. The spiral staircase starts two meters above the ground floor. The walls and the residential tower are provided with loopholes and finished with cornice. The residential tower, whose cornice is decorated, has four round bastions.
