Quadratus femoris muscle

The musculus quadratus femoris (Latin for " square leg muscle " ) is one of the short dorsal skeletal muscles of the hip. He joins distally on the muscle gemellus inferior to.

Function

The musculus quadratus femoris is the second strongest external rotator of the femur with stretched thigh after the gluteus maximus. In addition, its muscle meat raises at a contraction of the sciatic nerve in which runs over him, and thus prevents its entrapment between the greater trochanter of the femur and the ischial tuberosity. With the hip flexed the muscle is also an abductor of the swing leg and hip extended an adductor.
