Quadratus lumborum muscle

The musculus quadratus lumborum (Latin for " square lumbar muscle " ) is one of the deep abdominal muscles. He fills the area between the back of the iliac crest and the 12th rib.

Function

The musculus quadratus lumborum tends the fuselage to the side and lowers the 12th rib. It forms a return for the diaphragm, which is important for the stabilization of the lower ribs at the inhalation. He is also involved in the expiration ( exhalation ).
