Quadratus plantae muscle

The musculus quadratus plantae (Latin for " sole quadrilateral muscle " ) is in the range of the bottom of the foot skeleton between foot skeleton and short toe flexors. It rises on the plantar surface of the heel bone ( calcaneus ). The musculus quadratus plantae attaches to the tendon of the flexor digitorum longus ( flexor digitorum longus ), just before it fans out into the part tendons. About this tendon he puts on at the bases of the end members of the second to fifth toes.

Function

The musculus quadratus plantae changes the direction of pull of the tendon of the flexor digitorum longus. Because of its effect on this tendon the muscle is sometimes referred to as plantar head of the flexor digitorum longus and flexor accesorius.
