Quakecon

Quakecon is a BYOC ( bring your own computer, dt " bring your own computer " ) computer game event, which is held every year since 1996 in the vicinity of Dallas, Texas. History

The QuakeCon was originally organized by a group in the EFnet ( IRC network). The event should be to meet in real life. Jim " H2H " Elson, a player from the area around Dallas was organized in the first years of these events.

The first QuakeCon found in August 1996 at the Best Western Hotel in Garland, Texas. Overall, was attended by about 40-60 players, there were mainly played Quake and Doom. Also there was a small tournament, the winners received T -shirts. The special at Quakecon was that even employees of id Software were present and took time for the fans. John Carmack, lead programmer for the Doom / Quake series, also participated in the talks with the followers of the games.

The QuakeCon 1997 was attended by about 650 participants, but found the Holiday Inn in Plano, Texas, instead. There were several Internet and TV broadcasts of QuakeCon, which has now also officially supported by id Software and publisher Activision.

QuakeCon 1998 was held in collaboration with the Cyber ​​Athlete Professional League.

QuakeCon 1999

  • Highlights: Again, the QuakeCon had grown, and with 3000 BYOC participants one of the largest LAN parties in the world. The prices for tournament winners totaled over $ 150,000.
