Qualitätswein bestimmter Anbaugebiete

Quality wines produced in specified regions, on the wine label usually abbreviated QbA, was a quality level of the wine. It lies on table wine and wine country but under quality wine. Unlike other quality levels (eg, table wine ) the grapes must come from a single one of the approved growing areas. The grapes used must come exclusively from vine varieties of the species Vitis vinifera. If the vine still in the approval process, it must be stated on the label the name " from experimental cultivation ".

The higher requirements when such wines are aimed particularly at the level of maturity of the grapes. Must weight must be at least 50 ° to 72 ° Oechsle depending on growing region and grape variety. Thus, for example, is in the state of Rhineland -Palatinate, the minimum must weight at dornfelder for quality wine 68 degrees Oechsle. An accumulation by sugar (but only fructose and glucose) before fermentation ( Chaptalisation ) is allowed. The wines are subjected to an analytical test which is carried out by organoleptic, wine legal and chemical criteria, and carry on the label official verification number. The wines must have a total alcoholic strength of at least 9 % and actual alcoholic strength by 7%; the difference is the residual sugar in the wine and thus determines its sweetness.
