Quaranta

The Quaranta family is a Norman family from Salerno. The name Quaranta ( Forty in Italian ) was derived from the 40 Norman knights from the Crusades returning, the city of Salerno liberated before the siege of the Moors. This happened during the reign of Waimar IV in the 11th century. The family spread through Rome, Naples and Sicily.

A comprehensive genealogy of the family of an unknown writer of the 17th century is located in the State Archives of Salerno. The Quaranta family bears the title of Baron of San Severino and is also represented in Germany.
