Quarterback sack

In American football it is called a sack when the quarterback was brought down in an attempt to pass behind their own line of scrimmage before he could throw the ball. Even a run attempt, which the quarterback takes instead of a planned pass attempt and the ends behind the line of scrimmage, one as a blind. After a sack attempt is terminated and the position of the ball in the bag determines the new line of scrimmage. This usually means a loss of space for the attacking team ( but never a space gain ).

A sack in the end zone of the attacking team results in a safety. The bag is as performance achieved in the statistics of the defending player who wins the tackle. If players were involved in a bag, they get each attributed half a sack. The record holder in the National Football League ( NFL) is the former defensive end of the Buffalo Bills, Bruce Smith, with 200 Sacks.
