Quassel IRC

Quassel IRC (short: Quassel ) is a graphical, distributed IRC client. It is released under the GPL for Linux and other Unix derivatives as well as Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows. Under Kubuntu Version 9:04 ( " Jaunty Jackalope " ) Quassel is the default IRC client. It uses the class library Qt4.

Architecture

Quassel based on the client -server model: The core application can be run on an always connected to the Internet server, one or more clients connect to the core. In this way the connection can be maintained, for IRC, even if the client to close. Models for this functionality were the combination of screen and WeeChat or partially IRC - Bouncer.

It also is a variant available, combines the core and client in a program - it behaves like an "ordinary " IRC client, that is, it must, for example, no external core can be managed.

Functions

Quassel allows simultaneous connection to multiple IRC servers. For the management of nicknames, absence reason, etc. different identities can be created.

In order to facilitate the input of frequently used commands, it is possible " aliases " to create.

Advanced features include the " chat monitor ", in which the conversations of a ( configurable ) selection of channels are displayed and a preview website for URLs in the conversation.

Course

Quassel stores the conversation history in an SQLite or PostgreSQL database. When Scroll up the chat window older sections of the course are automatically loaded. In this way, a seamless viewing of the previous conversation is possible.

However, the course can not be exported directly; just as there is currently no easy way to search longer standing discussions.

Security

The connection between client and core can be encrypted via SSL.
