Quaternary numeral system

As a quaternary (Latin: quaternization, " four " ) are objects or structures composed of four parts and is composed of these elements, or can be broken down into it. Are used language unary (1), binary (2), ternary (3), quaternary (4), quinary (5), Senär (6) and Denär (10).

An example of the storage of information in a quaternary system is encoding proteins by the four nucleotides adenine (A), cytosine (C ), guanine (G) and uracil (U) in the RNA. When coding includes a word or codon of three nucleotides and can be as AAA to UUU 64 (or 43) take statuses.

A quaternary number system was used for example in the Chumash.

Quaternions are hyper- complex numbers with a 4 -component structure, the number of inter alia in calculations of the four-dimensional spacetime of special relativity apply.
