Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal

The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (French Médaille du jubilé de diamant de la reine Elizabeth II) is an honorary award of the United Kingdom and several Commonwealth realms, which was awarded in 2012 in memory of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. There are three versions: one British, one Canadian and a Caribbean. The Jubilee Medal was awarded to thousands of recipients in the states of the Commonwealth of Nations during the Jubilee Year.

Stylish look and manner

The Canadian version was designed by Cathy Bursey - Sabourin of the Canadian Heraldic Authority and produced by the Royal Canadian Mint. On the front of the disc-shaped award a winning portrait of the Queen can be seen, surrounded by the words ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA • CANADA (Latin for " Queen Elizabeth II by the Grace of God • Canada "). On the back of Elizabeth crowned royal monogram EIIR is mapped to a diamond- shaped sign, surrounded by four maple leaves and a ribbon with the years 1952 and 2012 to the left and to the right and the words VIVAT REGINA ( " Long live the Queen " ) at the bottom.

The UK version is a work by the artist Timothy Noad. It shows on the front of the body set up by Ian Rank- Broadley effigy of Elizabeth with diadem, surrounded by the inscription ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA FID DEF ( " Elizabeth II Queen of the Grace of God, Defender of the Faith "). The back consists of a hexagon with crowned royal monogram and the annual figures in 1952 and 2012.

The Caribbean version is a common issue of eight states Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Grenada, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The front shows the same image of the Queen as on the British Medal, surrounded by the words DIAMOND JUBILEE QUEEN ELIZABETH II HM ( " Diamond Jubilee Her Majesty Elizabeth II "). On the back of the royal monogram is depicted above named CARIBBEAN REALMS and the years 1952-2012 figures below. The medal itself is rhodium plated.

Worn will receive the award at the upper left side of the chest of Beliehenen on a blue ribbon with narrow red sides, in the middle of a wide white vertical center bar is woven, in turn, by a narrow red stripe ( Caribbean Version: black stripe ) is crossed.

Authorization and awarding

In the United Kingdom and the British overseas territories 450,000 medals were awarded to members of the British armed forces who had served more than five years, as well as to the operational staff of Her Majesty's Prison Service, as well as paid and voluntary staff of emergency services with at least five years of service. Support of the Victoria Cross and George Cross and members of the royal household were eligible. The production costs of the medals were 8 million pounds.

The 60,000 Canadian medals were awarded to persons living in Canada who have done over the last six decades a significant contribution to their fellow citizens, their community or their country. They could also be awarded posthumously if the claimant ( the anniversary of the accession to the throne ) was alive on 6 February 2012.
