Queienfeld is a village in the southern district Schmalkalden- Meiningen in Thuringia. Since 1 December 2007, the formerly politically independent municipality is a town in the grave field.

Location

The town lies on Queienberg. Through the town flows the Bibra. To the north is the Thuringian Forest, southwest of the Rhön. Between them is the grave field in which not far east of Federal Highway 71 and the main road in 2668 and the county road has settled 60 Quenfeld in his hallway once.

History

For the first time the place in the year 1057 was mentioned as Quiunfelt. The place was first an exclave of the possession of the Bishopric of Würzburg in the county of Henneberg.

Around 1100 was on the 506 meter high Queienberg a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary, which was used until the late 15th century as a pilgrimage chapel. The village church was built in 1719-1721 from the stones of the chapel. ( See main article → Church in Queienfeld )

During construction of the A 71, archaeologists discovered traces of prehistoric settlement, who pointed out that there is already BC was extended settlements between Queienberg and Büchelberg about 600 years.

1435 pledged the Bishop of Wurzburg the place to the Counts of Henneberg - Schleusingen.
