Quetta Shura

The Quetta Shura is a militant organization of the Afghan Taliban based in Quetta, which is led by Mohammed Omar. It was formed from the remnants of 2001 toppled the Taliban government of Afghanistan.

They expanded in 2010 its sphere of influence at the expense of other Islamist organizations in Afghanistan.

The Afghan government under Hamid Karzai tried in 2010 by a dialogue with the group and tried some of their members, including Mohammed Omar himself, to sweep from the terrorist list of the United Nations. The group negotiated in the fall of 2010 with the Afghan government on peace and a possible participation in the government.
