Qufu

Qufu (Chinese曲阜 市) is a county-level city in east China's Shandong Province.

Qufu is part of the administrative area of the prefecture-level city of Jining.

Chinese mythology, according to which the city is known as the birth and death place of Confucius. Qufu in 1994 was appointed World Heritage Site.

Geography

The city is located about 170 km south of the provincial capital Jinan, has an area of 896 km ² and approximately 640,000 inhabitants ( 2004).

Administrative Divisions

At the community level, Qufu is composed of two road districts, six large municipalities and four municipalities together. These are:

History

In Qufu Confucius lived and worked. The he founded Confucianism is the belief, or philosophy, or religion, is the most significant in China. Almost one in four Qufuer is a descendant of Confucius. The city is a major center for its history of Confucianism.

Qufu was declared a World Heritage Site because of its uniqueness in 1994.

Attractions

Temple of Confucius

One of the main attractions in Qufu is the 22 -acre Temple of Confucius (孔庙" Kǒng Miao " ), which was built on the place where previously stood the birthplace of Confucius.

Kong Family Mansion
