QuickTime VR

QuickTime VR is a technology developed by Apple to display panoramic pictures on equipped with QuickTime computers. The technology allows an interactive navigation around the vertical and the horizontal axis, and control of the zoom level. Thus the impression of a three-dimensional space is created ( the VR in the name stands for virtual reality, ie virtual reality).

A distinction in this regard between the early and later also possible cylindrical cubic panoramas. Cubic ( or spherical ) panoramas allow a representation of 180 ° in the vertical, whereas this is not possible with cylindrical projections. Several QuickTime VR panoramas can be linked to virtual tours.

In addition to the QuickTime VR panoramas, there are QuickTime VR object movies with which the viewer can move freely around a photographed or rendered object around and zoom in closer.

QuickTime VR also works on machines with relatively low computing power, but was widely replaced by Flash and HTML5 -based techniques later for viewing panoramas.
