Quilpué

Quilpué is a city in Chile. It has 130,800 inhabitants ( 2004).

Geography and climate

Quilpué lies about 20 km east of Valparaiso in the Región de Valparaíso. The city is located at about 300 m altitude. The climate is mostly dry, with pleasant temperatures.

History

Quilpué received on April 25, 1898 town charter by President Federico Errazuriz Echaurren. On 16 August 1906, the city was rocked by a major earthquake, in which 20 residents lost their lives.

From 1894 to 2003 there was a German school in Quilpué. The school was then moved to El Salto.

Since 1990, the city has a zoo with around 700 species.
