Quin, County Clare

Quin ( Irish Cuinche " five-way " ) is a town in County Clare in the west of Ireland.

Quin is located about 10 km southeast of Ennis in the eastern part of the county Clare on the R469 regional road from Ennis to Kilmurry and is traversed by the small River Rine. The Irish name of the town refers to the original five roads leading out of Quin. The population of Quin was determined during Census 2006, 1050 people.

Quin was known by the located there, in common parlance as well as on maps only as Quin Abbey Quin Friary designated, a built on the foundations of an earlier Norman castle large former Franciscan monastery from the 15th century.

The prospector Paddy Hannan, 1893 which triggered a gold rush in Australia, was born in 1840 in Quin.
