Quinalizarin is an organic chemical compound which belongs to the group of alizarin dyes, and thus the anthraquinones. It is used for the detection and for the colorimetric determination of beryllium, magnesium, boron, aluminum, gallium, indium, and fluorides, and was formerly used for dyeing cotton. Quinalizarin arises from alizarin by heating with fuming sulfuric acid and boric acid.
