Quincy Detenamo

Quincy Detenamo ( born March 8, 1979 in Buada ) is a nauruischer weightlifter. His uncle Vinson Detenamo is a former parliamentarian and president of the Nauruan National Olympic Committee; his cousin Itte Detenamo took part in the Games in Athens.

He took part in the Commonwealth Games in 1998 and 2002, and at the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, where he was one of the first three athletes who represented Nauru at the Olympics. In 1999 he set a new record in the 77 -kilogram class at the South Pacific Games. For the Olympic Games in Athens, he had no plans to compete.

In August 2004, had two aunts Detenamos submitted by a judicial court of Melbourne a statement that her nephew would be involved in the murder case of an Australian part-time prostitutes; Detenamo was arrested on 4 August 2004 at the Melbourne Airport by police when he tried to fly to Fiji for training. He was at the material time in Melbourne to support the Australian weightlifter Caroline Pileggi in doping allegations against them.

The judgment in the process should be made until August 16, but this was postponed for unknown reasons. On 7 March 2005, the process was continued; according to the autopsy report DNA evidence of Detenamo were found on the corpse. On 5 October 2005, the trial began in the Supreme Court in Melbourne, he was acquitted of the charge of murder on October 14, but convicted of manslaughter. Until the verdict Detenamo remained in custody.

On December 14, he was finally condemned by the Melbourne court to nine years ' imprisonment; it can be released for good behavior after seven years.
