Quinquennial Neronia

The Neronia were devised by the Roman Emperor Nero betting games on a Greek model.

The multi-day games consisted of competitions in poetry, music and song, various sports competitions as well as horse racing. After Nero's designing the Neronia should take place in a five -year cycle. Executed but they were only in the years 60 and 65 AD. Venues were the Vatican gardens, the theater of Pompey and the Saepta Julia.

It was chaired by the respective consuls. As a prize for the winner of a discipline, a laurel wreath was awarded.

In the division poetry in year 60 won the poet Lucanus with was not received in the wording laudes Neronis. Nero 65 itself came with a poem about the Trojan War.
