Quintus Pomponius Secundus

Quintus Pomponius Secundus was a Roman politician and senator.

Life

Pomponius was from a plebeian family, perhaps from Iguvium in Umbria. He took in 31 his brother Publius in domestic custody when he was indicted in the wake of Sejanus affair. The prosecutor brought Pomponius in the year 33 before court.

In 41 Pomponius was, instead of the Emperor Caligula, Suffektkonsul. After the death of Caligula Pomponius wanted to restore together with his colleague Gnaeus Sentius Saturninus the Republic, but the Praetorians called Claudius the new emperor. Pomponius but was left in place until 1 July in office. Accused by Publius Suillius, he fled to the rebellious governor of Dalmatia Lucius Camillus Arruntius Scribonianus. After the collapse of the uprising Pomponius also likely to have been killed.

Cassius Dio reported that Pomponius was a low flatterers, who was the excesses of Caligula and his curiosity always strives to supply new items. During a play in the imperial palace of the consul sat at the feet of the Emperor, and covered them from time to time with his kisses.
