Quitzdorf am See

Quitzdorf am See is a municipality in the district Görlitz, Saxony. The Association for Management Diehsa belonging municipality was created in 1994 from the merger of two communities and was named after the village Quitzdorf, which had to give the dam Quitzdorf.

Geography and transport

The community Quitzdorf am See is located in the central part of the county and is bounded on the east by the city Niesky. At the national transport network Quitzdorf is connected to the south by the lake via the federal highway 156 in the West, the federal highway 115 in the east and the Federal Highway 4. The nearest motorway junctions in an easterly direction are Kodersdorf (junction 93, about 20 km) and low Seifersdorf (92; 12 km), and to the west Weissenberg ( 91, 10 km). Through the community's railroad Horka - Falkenberg leads to a train station in Peter Hain.

Quitzdorf am See is located between the Biosphere Reserve Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape in the north and the Hohendubrau in the south and is surrounded by a forest and pond rich landscape. The villages Kollm and Sproitz are right at the dam Quitzdorf in which the Black Schoeps is jammed.

Local structure

The districts are Horscha ( Sorbian: Hóršow ) Kollm ( Chelm ), Peter Hain ( Hóznica ) Sproitz ( Sprjojcy ) and Steinölsa ( Kamjentna Wólšinka ).

History

The district Kollm first mentioned as dorffe to Kollme in 1346 in a document. The name is of Slavic origin and is expected to mean place on the hill. A little later, Peter Hain ( 1390 ) and Sproitz ( 1399; than Sprewicz ) first mentioned. It was not until over 100 years later, the first mention Steinölsas took place in 1528 (as Steinöllß ).

In Horschaer quarry, in the quartzite was mined until 1984, 1956 graptolites were found from the Silurian.

The municipality was created on 1 March 1994, when the communities Kollm and Sproitz ( with district Steinölsa ) to the municipality " Quitzdorf am See " banded together. The name was chosen to remember the old Quitzdorf. On October 1, 1995, merged with the municipality of Peter Hain, which included the district Horscha.

Attractions

In the villages of the municipality, there are various architectural sights from the past centuries. These include the churches from the 13th or 14th century in Peter Hain and Kollm, associated presbyteries from the years 1662 ( Kollm ) and 1685 ( Peter Hain ), a penitential cross from the 15th century and a flour mill from the year 1625 Sproitz, an old mill in Horscha and an old castle wall to Steinölsa. Much older are already the Stone Age grave mounds Steinölsa.

In Sproitz there are also three monuments or memorials. These are a penitential cross from the 15th century, a monument to the General Karl Freiherr von Wrangel from the time of the First World War and a military cemetery from World War II.

In the town there are several stately plants. Among them is the manor of 1578, Peter Hain, the "New Castle " with park from the years 1909 /11 Kollm (the " Old Castle " from 1766 was blown up in GDR times ), which was built in 1903-1905 in Art Nouveau style Castle and park are in Peter Hain and the Horschaer park with his early romantic park.

Scenic attractions in and around the town are near the Biosphere Reserve Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape and the reservoir of Siliceous shale mining on Pansberg in Horscha, the vineyard in Kollm and the ridge of High Dubrau with the oldest rocks in Germany.

Personalities

The German film producer Hans Abich (1918-2003) was born in Steinölsa.
