Quo Vadis (novel)#Adaptations

Ursus is the name of a " husky " (lat. ursus = bear) man who Henryk Sienkiewicz in 'novel Quo Vadis? acts as protector of the Christian Lygia.

Originally created as a Greco-Roman gladiator, he was established as part of the Italian wave of sandals films in the early 1960s as an independent figure and received his "own" film series. Unlike other muscle reinforced title character as Maciste or Hercules a kind of biography can at Ursus in several films, most notably those with actor Ed Fury, are traced: He is the descendant of a fallen kingdom and gained its strength by growing among lions (Ursus in the Valley of the Lions), is later Bauer ( La vendetta di Ursus ) and must rescue his fiancée before the sacrificial death (Ursus ). Next he fights against usurpers in non-localized regions (Ursus nella terra di fuoco ) or even Asia (Ursus e la ragazza tartara ). As usual in the genre, he loses in German versions several times his identity; from time to time but other heroes be made an Ursus.

With the waning of the shaft and the interest in this fictitious person disappeared. Among other things, the Mexican wrestler Jesús Ortega Melendez (1922-1977) was the name of the fictional Greco-Roman gladiators as a ring name was dropped and usually with additional Mighty Ursus.
