Qurban Hussain, Baron Hussain

Qurban Hussain, Baron Hussain, of Luton in the County of Bedfordshire ( born March 27, 1956 in Kashmir ) is a British entrepreneur, union official and Labour Party politician and now the Liberal Democrats, who since 2011 as a life peer member of the House of Lords is.

Life

Originally from Kashmir Hussain has been an entrepreneur and co-owner of the housing and property management company BMQ Properties. After he was between 1994 and 1996 Secretary of the Trades Union Congress Trades Union Congress (TUC ) in Luton, he joined the Labour Party in 1996, but left it in 2003 to become a member of the Liberal Democrats.

Immediately thereafter, he began his political career in local politics and was elected as a candidate of the Liberal Democrats as a member of the City Council of Luton, where he served since 2003. After the first time a candidate unsuccessful in the general election on 5 May 2005 in the constituency of Luton South for a seat in the House of Commons, he served between 2005 and 2007 as vice chairman of the City Council of Luton.

In the European elections in 2009, he applied for the Liberal Democrats for a seat in the European Parliament, but suffered a defeat. Also a candidate at the general election on 6 May 2010 in the constituency of Luton South Hussain again for a seat in the House, but missed after his election defeat by the constituency Owner Margaret Moran again a place in the House of Commons.

By Letters Patent of 20 January 2011 Hussain as a life peer with the title Baron Hussain, of Luton was raised in the County of Bedfordshire in the peerage. On 25 January 2011 was his introduction ( Introduction) as a member of the House of Lords. Lord Hussain is currently engaged in, among others, as a member of the Advisory Board of the Cranford College in London Borough of Hounslow and as a member of the Board of the College of Central Bedfordshire, Dunstable.
