Qutayba ibn Muslim

Qutaiba ibn Muslim (* 670, † 715, . قتيبة بن مسلم, DMG Qutaiba b Muslim) was a general of the Arab Umayyad caliph who conquered at the beginning of the 8th century Transoxiana.

Qutaiba been a member of the Arab Bāhila strain and was from 696/7 in the wake of al - Hajjaj ibn Yūsuf, the governor of ʿ Abd al - Malik in Iraq. In the year 704 he was commissioned by al - Hajjaj to refrain from Khorassan from the submission of Transoxiana in attack. In several campaigns against native petty kings and Turkish tribes he threw Bukhara ( 709) and Samarkand ( 712) and entered into the Fergana Valley and the North East to Isfidschab ago. Also Choresmien and Balch were subjected by his brother Abd al - Rahman. During the military actions Qutaiba also fought the pagan religions in Transoxiana, but left the native dynasties in the conquered principalities in power.

When the new Caliph Sulaiman ( 715-717 ) deposed the officers of the governor al - Hajjaj and persecuted, even Qutaiba was concerned, because he had supported the plan, Sulaiman ruled out of the succession. Qutaiba the Caliph refused allegiance, whereupon the army mutinied (up to Sogdian his bodyguard ) and he was killed with the members of his household.
