Quwê

Qu'e (also Que ) was a small Asian kingdom, which has been declared under Shalmaneser V 725 BC the Assyrian province.

Location

The area of Qu'e corresponded to the classical Cilicia and in broad terms the Hittite small state Kizzuwatna. It lay south of tabal and Tuwana and north of Tarsus.

History

Qu'e was possibly a legacy of the ancient Luwian Kizzuwatna. Shalmaneser III. Qu'e made tributary in several campaigns. Tiglath- Pileser III. also led campaigns in the areas around Qu'e since repeatedly broke revolts against Assyrian rule. After the annexation under the king Urik put this danunäischen the king Azatiwada one as his governor in Azatiwataya ( Karatepe Arslantaş ). From Urik, also Awarik, comes the statue of Cineköy. This includes a bilingual Phoenician- hieroglyphenluwische inscription, in which he talks about his accomplishments and his lineage leads back to the Greek seer Mopsos.

In Roman times designated Kietis Anemurion and cities on the coast of Cilicia as belonging to Qu'e. Tacitus reports on the trunk of the Cietae who raided under their king Troxobor Anemurion, but were repulsed by Antiochus IV of Commagene. Jones et al. consider it possible that maybe involves a Ptolemaic inscription from Arsinoe on the Kitae.
