The R. Premadasa Stadium is a cricket stadium in Maligawatta, Colombo, Sri Lanka. It was inaugurated in 1986 and today has a capacity of 35,000 spectators. It was founded in 1994 after the assassinated President of the country, Ranasinghe Premadasa, named.

Use

One- day cricket

The first international match was played between 1986 Pakistan and Sri Lanka and has since been regularly used for such in this stadium. So here were two group matches of the ICC Cricket World Cup 1996 and six preliminary rounds, both semi-finals and the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2002. After a renovation with an increase in the seating capacity from 14,000 to 35,000 five group matches, one quarter and were played a semifinal of the Cricket World Cup 2011 in this stadium.

Test Cricket

The stadium also serves as a venue for home games of Test matches the Sri Lankan cricket team. The first time was this the case in 1992 against Australia.

Twenty20

In the ICC World Twenty20 in 2012, six games of the preliminary and intermediate rounds, and both semi-finals and the finals will be held.
