R.U.R.

R.U.R. - Rossum 's Universal Robots ( Czech Rossumovi Univerzální Roboti ) is the title of a 1921 published by Czech writer Karel Čapek drama.

It's about the company RUR, which makes artificial people (in today's parlance androids ). These "robots" used as a cheap and lawless workers. Its massive use in the industry is changing with time, the whole world economy. However, in the further course of the play art people rebel and destroy humanity.

The name of the piece R.U.R. stands for " Rossum's Universal Robots", the company that produces the artificial man in the piece. The name Rossum is an ironic allusion of the author: the Czech word (pronounced as ' rosumm ', but with a short first syllable ) means Rozum reason, intellect.

The word " robot " (or robot, in the original Czech form, cf English ) came from this piece soon in the everyday language of many countries, the copyright holder of this neologism is but Karel's brother Josef Čapek.
