Rabun County, Georgia

The Rabun County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Clayton, named for Judge Augustin S. Clayton, a prominent lawyer and member of Congress.

Geography

The County is located in the extreme north of Georgia, bordered to the north by North Carolina and east to South Carolina. It has an area of 976 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers of water surface are bordered clockwise to the following counties: Habersham County and Towns County.

History

Rabun County was established on December 21, 1819 as the 47th County of Georgia from the country of the Cherokee territory. It was named for William Rabun, Governor of Georgia 31.
